Tamales

Today was a good day. Spent the first part of the day at the office. I had a short meeting with a police officer (reason for this: secret). We went to a couple of schools today (five total I think) to promote the show and try to get more host families. The last meeting ended at around 7 and when driving home we past a lady with a sign that said ”12 tamales, 12 dollars”. We stopped the car, jumped out, threw her the money (and asked if we could take a picture with her but she did not approve :/) and got driving again. Had some of the tamales in the car and then some more at home. This mexican specialty is something I haven’t tried before, but I loved it!

A tamale or tamal (Spanish tamal, from Classical Nahuatl tamalli) is a traditional Latin American dish made of masa (a starchy dough, often corn-based), which is steamed or boiled in a leaf wrapper. The wrapping is discarded before eating. Tamales can be further filled with meats, cheese, vegetables, chilies or any preparation according to taste, and both the filling and the cooking liquid may be seasoned.

That’s what my friend the squirrel at Wikipedia said. Our tamales were filled with beef, beans and olives. At least that’s what we think. Haha.
